COMMERCIALISATION
History Discovered in 1987 by Mitsubishi Kasei Corp. (now Mitsubishi Chemical Corp., who sold their agrochemical business to Nihon Nohyaku Co., Ltd in 2002). Reported by O. Ikeda et al., 8th IUPAC Int. Congr. Pestic. Chem., Washington, 1994. Introduced and registered in Japan in 1999 by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.
APPLICATIONS
Uses For both pre-emergence and post-emergence weed control in transplanted rice, controlling Echinochloa crus-galli, Monochoria vaginalis, Lindernia procumbens, Cyperus difformis, Scirpus juncoides and Eleocharis acicularis. Application is at 150 g/ha. Also used for pre-emergence weed control in turf. Under evaluation for pre-emergence weed control in wheat and barley. Formulation types EC; GR; SC; WG; WP. MAMMALIAN TOXICOLOGY
Oral Acute oral LD50 for male rats 631, female rats 460 mg/kg. Skin and eye Acute percutaneous LD50 for rats >2000 mg/kg. Mild eye irritant; not a skin irritant. Inhalation LC50 for rats 1.57 g/m3. Other Negative in Ames test.
ECOTOXICOLOGY
Birds Acute oral LD50 for bobwhite quail >2000 mg/kg. Fish LC50 (96 h) for carp 5.0 ppm. Daphnia LC50 (48 h) 7.90 ppm.
ENVIRONMENTAL FATE
Soil/Environment DT50 under paddy conditions 1-3 d, under upland conditions 1-17 d.
